Borealis
Firmware updates
New Borealis firmware adds effects, fixes and improvements. Updates are free and installed over Wi-Fi from the Borealis app.
Updating
- Open your Borealis in the app and tap the settings button (the gear).
- Under Firmware updates, tap Install next to the newest version.
- Keep the app open while it downloads the update and sends it to the controller. Borealis then restarts, and the lights go dark for a few seconds.
The app tells you when the update has finished. Your scenes, name and settings stay as they are.
What keeps updates safe
- Signed firmware: Borealis only installs firmware signed by Boreal Micro, and checks the whole image before switching to it.
- Automatic rollback: if new firmware doesn’t start properly, Borealis goes back to the version it had before by itself.
- Matched to your controller: each release says which Borealis models it’s for, and a controller refuses firmware built for a different model.
Versions
The app shows the installed firmware version and the board (for example A1) under Device information. Include both when you contact support.
